SW HOPE: Feed the Hungry
What is SW HOPE: Feed the Hungry?
Since 2006, each spring Southwest Portland Faith Organizations and Community Partners work together to meet the needs of hungry people in Southwest Portland. Today, your donation is more important than ever.
What is the Need?
Recent reductions in SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits are seriously weakening the national safety net for millions of vulnerable low-income Americans--including 819,000 Oregonians.
Neighborhood House operates the largest food pantry on Portland's west side, currently providing food boxes to approximately 500 families (or 1200 - 1500 individuals) each month, up from 270 before the recession hit.
Through our combined efforts, our goal is to collect 175,000 pounds of food, or the cash equivalent ($1 = 4 lbs). This will allow us to feed our hungry neighbors in SW Portland for 3 months (at current usage level).
Three Ways You Can Help:
Your donation matters! A financial contribution makes the biggest impact. Because of our partnership with the Oregon Food Bank, we are able to purchase food at deeply discounted prices, so that every $1 donated equals at least 4 lbs. of food.
